PET PORTRAITS

...

There's nothing I love more than drawing animals.

I use a mix of copic markers, fine liners and pencil on 220gsm watercolor paper for my pet portraits. I then paint the coloured background in with guache paint. My style of drawing is realistic so I will draw almost exactly as per the photograph you provide.

All pet portraits are sent via Australia Post with registered and insured mail (price will depend on size and framing). If you live locally in Perth and would prefer local pick up, please advise and I won't include shipping cost in your quote.

Payments

I require a 50% deposit before I begin your Artwork and the remaining 50% after the artwork is complete (before pick up/ postage).

Turnaround time

Pet portraits usually take between 4- 6 weeks but can sometimes take longer depending on my current bookings. Please note my schedule gets quite busy in the lead up to Christmas so best to get in early for this finish date (2-3 months prior to Christmas). If you need the artwork by a specific date please let me know in your email.

A great drawing comes from a great image so please read the below photo guidelines:

Camera

Most smartphones with a decent camera can snap pretty great images with the level of detail I require. Please avoid using screenshots as this decreases the resolution and quality of images. Please also avoid using "portrait" mode as this can blur the detail in the body/ ears.

Lighting

Take your photos in natural light, either inside near a window or outside in a shaded area. Have the light source behind you and your pet facing towards the light.

Angle

Capture the photo at your pet's eye level to avoid distorting their features. This can be done by kneeling down or by raising your pet onto a higher surface such as a table or chair. If you can snap your pet in the traditional "sit" position this is preferred as it works best proportionally on the page.

Detail

Get in close, focus and fill the frame with the head and chest of your pet without zooming in. As a general rule, if you can zoom in and see the individual hairs and details in your pets eyes then the photo is of good enough quality to draw from.

Gifts

Surprising someone with a pet portrait is a lovely idea but can often be tricky when it comes to finding the perfect pic of their pet. Another option is to gift them a voucher, simply choose what size you would like to gift and I can arrange to email/ send this to them on your behalf.

Personality

Try and capture the character and natural expression of your pet. I draw what I see so you must be happy that the reference photo shows your pet's true personality.
