PEOPLE PORTRAITS
...
I've always loved drawing realistic pencil portraits that aim to capture the true spirit and personality of a subject.
My technique is lead pencil on 220gsm watercolor paper and my style of drawing is realistic (so basically I will draw almost exactly as per the photograph you provide). I draw all genders/ ages and can add a coloured background (depending on the image) or keep it plain white.
Sizes & Pricing:
Medium (A4)
$400
Artwork size: 21cm x 29.7cm
Frame size: 32cm x 42cm
Sizing
I offer A4 size only in people portraits as the pencil shading technique is much more time consuming. Pricing completely depends on the final look & details. For example, I put the most detail into the face (where I shade the skin) and make this look as realistic as possible, I can apply this same technique to the hair & clothing or do this in a more simplified way. Either option will affect the price as it's purely based on time. Simplified portraits start at $400 however I can provide a more accurate quote when I see your images & we finalize the details.
Framing
The above pricing includes framing. I use white wood frames with white card mounts (see pictures in the above gallery for examples).
Multiple people
The above pricing is based on one person, please note additional people will incur an added charge.
Postage
All portraits are sent via Australia Post with registered and insured mail (price will depend on size and framing). If you live locally in Perth and would prefer local pick up, please advise and I won't include shipping cost in your quote.
Payments
I require a 50% deposit before I begin your artwork and the remaining 50% after the artwork is complete (before pick up/ postage).
Turnaround time
Portraits usually take between 4- 6 weeks but can sometimes take longer depending on my current bookings. Please note my schedule gets quite busy in the lead up to Christmas so best to get in early for this finish date (2-3 months prior to Christmas). If you need the artwork by a specific date please let me know in your email.
A great drawing comes from a great image so please read the below photo guidelines:
Image Types
Most smartphones with a decent camera can snap pretty great images with the level of detail I require. Please avoid using screenshots as this decreases the resolution and quality of images. Please also avoid using "portrait" mode as this can blur the detail in the body/ ears.
Lighting
Close up, well lit photos in natural light translate the best and allow me to capture the best detail in a person's face. Direct sunlight should be avoided (as these photos are often over exposed and can result in squinting or harsh shadows) so natural inside light is recommended.
Posing
I aim to capture a direct reflection of someones personality through their portrait so overly posed pictures (with big cheesy grins) aren't recommended. Dramatic, direct or candid expressions are best. Looking directly at the camera, away from it or on a 3/4 angle is best. Head and shoulders only please.
Please send through a selection of images to hayleydaniel.art@gmail.com (the more I have to choose from the better).
Multiple emails are fine or I would recommend using WeTransfer's free large file sending service here.
